Mazda CX-5

2017-2018 Mazda CX-5

The CX-5 was redesigned slightly for 2017.

2C remains very narrow – and still doesn’t even fit our narrow backless booster. We suspect that what works with regard to car seats in 2C for the 2013-2016 will be quite similar for the 2017-18.

Here is what worked for the 2013-16: You can get some infant seat bases installed securely in 2C – the Chicco Fit2 works very well – as well as some convertible seats – the Clek Foonf & Clek Fllo both work well REAR-facing in 2C (but neither will work forward-facing in 2C). It is also possible to put a rear-facing Clek Foonf in 2C (installed with seat belt) with a rear-facing Cybex Aton2 in 2P (installed with seat belt + load leg).

Mazda states that the vehicle head restraint must be removed when installing any forward-facing car seat or high back booster (make sure to store it in your house so you don’t lose it – but also so it doesn’t fly around the car and hit someone in a crash).

The spacing between the innermost lower anchors is 16 inches – see here for more about this type of “center LATCH.”

2C is very narrow (due in part to the rigid buckles for 2D and 2P). 2C wouldn’t even fit our narrow backless booster. It is also possible to put a rear-facing Clek Foonf in 2C (installed with seat belt) with a rear-facing Cybex Aton2 in 2P (installed with seat belt + load leg).

The spacing between the innermost lower anchors is 16.5 inches – see here for more about this type of “center LATCH.”
