“I was initially very hesitant to move my almost three year old son to rear facing from forward facing. He has been sitting forward facing for over a year and can be strong willed when it comes to change. However, after hearing how much safer it is I was willing to try.
The first three or so drives were very difficult as he asked to “look out mama and dada’s window” almost the entire time. We ignored and distracted and I was about to give up when I noticed that although he still complained about sitting rear facing it happened less and less. Now (after about three weeks) he asks maybe once every other drive if he can sit forward facing and was even (mostly) fine the other day when his friend joined us and sat forward facing. “The Car Seat Lady has provided absolutely invaluable assistance to my family over the past three years. We have an older car, without many of the child safety features that are now mandatory. When our son was born, we bought a car seat that turned out to be a really bad fit for our particular car. We could never get it installed correctly and had no idea about simple adjustments that make car seat travel much safer for kids. We consulted the Car Seat Lady who provided extensive advice by phone and email about what seat she’d recommend for our particular vehicle, and then she worked with us to install and re-install it until we were able to do it expertly ourselves – all for a nominal fee. “When we read about the recent recommendation from the AAP extending the age until which children should be rear facing, we returned our two-and-a-half-year-old daughter to the rear-facing position that very afternoon. She’d been rear-facing for about 3 or 4 months prior, and so we thought she might complain about the switch. She didn’t at all — she took it all in stride, and I’m glad we didn’t hesitate. “I want to say thank you for your time and expertise. I was trying to find a way to get three boosters seats across the middle row of my vehicle. We had two boosters on the two outsides, but were unable to find anything that would work in the middle position. Thankfully you suggested the **** booster! It fits beautifully! My 6 year old (and tallest of the kids) sits in that seat where the seatbelt fits perfectly. I can’t believe that we were able to fit a booster that allows us to buckle all three seats….fairly easily. I am thrilled that we can keep our car while keeping the kids safe in the middle row!
