Mazda Mazda3

2014-2018 Mazda Mazda3 hatchback

The Mazda3 was redesigned for 2014. Changes include the addition of a head restraint for 2C (good change) and making the buckles for 2D and 2P rigid, whereas in previous years they had been flexible (bad change – as now even a narrow booster can’t fit in 2C).

The spacing between the innermost lower anchors is 17.4 inches – see here for more about this type of “center LATCH.”

2010-2013 Mazda Mazda3 hatchback

The Mazda3 was slightly changed for 2010 & again 2011. Starting in 2010, the shoulder belt for 2C is now integrated into the vehicle seat – rather than coming from the back wall of the vehicle as in previous models. There is no longer seat belt hardware on the lap belt anchor side for 2C (this is a good change – and will make it easier to get a secure installation with some car seats without this extra hardware).

In 2010 the head restraints were changed to ones that overhung the back of the vehicle seat. For 2011, the head restraints for 2D & 2P were changed again and can now flip up/down. The head restraints for 2010-2013 are all removable and do not require a tool to remove.

If looking for an infant seat that will install securely in 2C and allow the driver’s seat to come all the way back, the Chicco Fit2 is a great choice.

The spacing between the innermost lower anchors is 15.8 inches – see here for more about this type of “center LATCH.”

2004-2009 Mazda Mazda3 hatchback

While 2C has a shoulder belt and is wide enough for many car seats, it is not suitable for kids in backless boosters or adults as it has no head restraint. The shoulder belt for 2C comes from the back wall of the vehicle on the driver’s side – see here for how to use, connect & disconnect this seat belt.
