The A3 was brought back as a wagon for 2016.
Sadly, the center seat – which used to be great for car seats in the older model – is no longer functional due to the rigid buckles for all 3 seats and the new narrower dimensions for 2C. Adults trying to sit in the center may notice that the lap belt is fitting them poorly (resting on their belly instead of their lap) as it is anchored high in the seat crease.
The A3 was first introduced in 2006 and was available as a wagon through 2013 – and then reintroduced for 2017 as the A3 Sportback.
The head restraints are removable (you must fold the vehicle seat back forward in order to remove them – otherwise they don’t clear the roof).
For a smaller vehicle, the back seat nicely accommodates a variety of car seats (even a Clek Foonf fits rear-facing in 2D with a reasonably sized male driver).
