Picking a car seat is tricky! Some parents inadvertently select a car seat that isn’t optimal for use with their vehicle, child and/or travel needs. Sometimes the car seat is even incompatible with the family’s needs! Picking a vehicle is hard too, especially when multiple car seats are involved, and is a much bigger and costlier commitment than just a car seat.
The Car Seat Lady has a combined experience of 50K+ car seat installations, and we’ve also written a family vehicle buying guide. We’re very well equipped to help families shopping for a new car seat or a new car.
A consultation with The Car Seat Lady will give you peace of mind that you’ve chosen the right car seat and/or vehicle for your family’s travel needs. During the phone consultation we’ll draw on our experience having installed literally tens of thousands of car seats to give you personalized recommendations. If you choose a virtual lesson, we’ll show you how to use the car seat properly as well.
What if you already have a car seat? If you just bought a new seat: please keep it in the box (unopened if possible) until we connect. If your car seat is no longer returnable: we’ll try our hardest to make it work for you.

Thank you for the work that you do! There are a gazillion things that new parents can (and probably shouldn't) freak out about. It's nice to know that this is one less thing. You do a wonderful job at keeping us updated, and speaking our language. I feel 1000x more secure driving with Miles after having followed your instructions. You are very much a blessing to us. Thank you!

I want to say thank you for your time and expertise. I was trying to find a way to get three boosters seats across the middle row of my vehicle. We had two boosters on the two outsides, but were unable to find anything that would work in the middle position. Thankfully you suggested the **** booster! It fits beautifully! My 6 year old (and tallest of the kids) sits in that seat where the seatbelt fits perfectly. I can't believe that we were able to fit a booster that allows us to buckle all three seats....fairly easily. I am thrilled that we can keep our car while keeping the kids safe in the middle row! Thank you so much for your taking the time to help me. You saved us thousands of dollars and helped me find the safest solution for our kids. I truly can't thank you enough.

Below are answers to our most commonly asked questions. If you have questions about something you don’t see listed below, please contact us.
Can I met with you in person?
We are not currently meeting in-person with families.
What kind of car seats do you recommend? We recommend all sorts of different car seats, depending on your specific travel needs, your vehicle, your budget, and many other factors that we will discuss during the phone consultation. Sometimes only one or two car seats will work in a certain situation, and sometimes you’ll have many many options.
Do you offer refunds? We do not offer refunds after the phone call, since that is the service we’re providing!
Do you offer discounts? We offer a discounted rate to active duty military families. Please include that information when you contact us.
How do I know if I should pick the 30 minute or 60 minute option? The 30 minute option is for families with fairly basic car seat or vehicle questions. If you have just one child and one vehicle, if you are expecting a newborn and already have a vehicle, and if you just need a recommendation for a new seat for a toddler or a booster for a 6 year old, this should be enough time. If you need multiple new car seats, or need to figure out how to fit three or more car seats in a car, then the 60 minute option is more appropriate.
If you choose the 30 minute option and discover during the phone call that you have additional questions you can always choose to schedule a second call. We are unable to extend phone calls past their allotted time due to scheduling limitations on our part (since we usually have back-to-back calls scheduled).
What are the follow-up materials? We’ll follow up the call with a detailed lesson review guide to the car seat you’ve chosen. Lesson reviews feature our own installation videos as well as written and/or video guidance on adjustments to make to the seat as the child gets bigger. This includes things like when and how to move the shoulder straps up, when to remove various inserts, how to know your child has outgrown the seat, etc. If we don’t have a lesson review for your child’s car seat we’ll try to send installation videos to highlight general techniques that will apply to your seat.
Do I need to prepare for the phone consultation? It varies case by case, but in most situations yes, you will need to prepare. For families expecting a newborn, we’ll send some informational articles we’ve written for you to read prior to our phone conversation. This ensures that you are familiar with some of the important safety issues before we speak. For families that already own a car seat, we’ll likely ask you to take photos of the seat and of your child sitting in the seat and send these to us prior to the phone call. This will help us prepare to make the best recommendations for how to install the seat(s) and for your child’s size. Please note that you do not need to include your child’s face in the photograph. We’ll give you specific preparation instructions when we reach out to schedule the consultation.
When do you offer phone calls? We are available most days of the week, and we are in New York, so operate on the Eastern time zone.
What is a virtual installation lesson? We’ll meet on your choice of video platform (zoom, whatsapp, facetime, google duo, google meet, etc) and do the installation together. We will send materials for you to review prior to the lesson so that you’re familiar with the car seat and the vehicle interior, which leads to a smoother lesson.
Which situations are excluded from virtual lessons? Some families have quite complicated car seat needs, and these types of installations are not always compatible with a virtual appointment. We will try our best but often in very complicated cases it is necessary to meet in person with a Child Passenger Safety Technician or Instructor. We will decide this on a case-by-case basis.

When do you offer virtual lessons? We are available most days of the week, and we are in New York, so we operate on the Eastern time zone. If your car is parked outside, you should plan to do the lesson during daylight hours. If you have a well-lit garage timing isn’t as important, but you will want to have enough space around the vehicle to allow you to move around comfortably and easily.
