The Altima was redesigned for 2019. It now has a tiny head restraint for 2C. The head restraints for 2D & 2P in the 2013-2016 models with leather seats have adjustable, removable head restraints – while the 2013-2016 with cloth seats have fixed head restraints in all three seating positions. Starting in 2017, all versions (cloth or leather) have fixed head restraints in all three seating positions.

2002 saw the introduction of lower anchors – but just for 2D & 2P.
The head restraints for 2D & 2P no longer stick out quite as much as they used to. There continues to be no head restraint for 2C.
One notable, and unfortunate, change for 2002 is that the seat belt buckles are now much longer – which can make it hard/impossible to get a car seat securely installed. If you can’t get a car seat tight, try this: before buckling the seat belt, twist the female end (the buckle) 3 full revolutions to shorten it, which will increase your chances of getting a tight installation with your child’s car seat. You may need to hold the buckle so it stays twisted while someone else pulls the seat belt tight (once the belt is tight, it won’t untwist).
2000 saw the addition of a shoulder belt for 2C. 2000 also was the first year that tether anchors were factory installed for all 3 seats (in previous years they could be retrofitted, but didn’t come in the vehicle). Lower anchors aren’t available… they’ll come later for the 2002 model year.
The lap belt for all 3 seating positions in back is anchored high in the seat crease (the bight) – which will make it more challenging to securely install some car seats (particularly those being installed in 2C).
There is a lap belt and no head restraint in 2C. 2D & 2P have shoulder belts, but minimal head restraints. All the buckles as well as the seat belt for 2C are forward of the bight (the seat crack) – which will make it harder to get many car seats, especially forward-facing ones, installed securely. 2D & 2P are harder places to install a forward-facing car seat due to how the vehicle’s seat back protrudes forward towards the top.
Tether anchors can be retrofitted from 1993-1999 – and we STRONGLY recommend doing this if you have a forward-facing child that needs to ride in this back seat.
